Abstract : This review article examines the impact of various dietary factors on individuals with type 2 diabetes, focusing on cardiometabolic risk factors and cardiovascular disease (CVD). It discusses the effects of different types of fats, the quality of carbohydrates, protein intake, vitamin and mineral supplementation, alcohol consumption, beverages, non-nutritive sweeteners, glycaemic index and load, and dietary fibers. The article emphasizes the importance of replacing saturated fats with unsaturated fats, adopting low-glycemic index diets, increasing soluble fiber intake, and practicing moderate alcohol consumption. It also highlights the potential benefits of non-nutritive sweeteners and the significance of glycemic index and load in food choices. Further research is recommended to deepen the understanding of these dietary factors in managing type 2 diabetes and preventing CVD.
