Author Instructions 

Online Submission: The highest standards are what Journal of Medical Food and Nutrition is dedicated to. Only works that are original, fit within the aforementioned scope and have undergone peer review before publication will be considered for publication. The manuscript must be new and original, not under consideration for publication elsewhere, according to the cover letters. Co-authors ought to be people who made a significant contribution to the papers' substance. All writers are required to disclose all financial sources and potential conflicts of interest.

The Journal of Medical Food and Nutrition (JMN) welcomes original research, reviews, short communications, clinical case reports, and commentary articles in the field of medical foods, nutrition science, and related health disciplines. All submissions must be prepared according to the following guidelines.

1. Manuscript Categories
We accept the following types of submissions:

Original Research Articles – Detailed studies presenting novel findings (3,000–6,000 words).

Review Articles – Comprehensive, critical summaries of the literature (4,000–8,000 words).

Short Communications – Brief reports of new data or pilot studies (up to 2,000 words).

Case Reports – Clinically relevant single or series case descriptions (up to 2,500 words).

Commentaries / Letters to the Editor – Opinion pieces or responses to published work (500–1,500 words).

2. General Submission Requirements
Manuscripts must be original and not under consideration elsewhere.

All submissions should be in English.

Follow ICMJE (International Committee of Medical Journal Editors) recommendations.

Adhere to COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines for research and publication ethics.

All research involving humans or animals must have appropriate ethical clearance.

3. Manuscript Structure
Title Page
Title (concise and informative)

Author names and affiliations

Corresponding author details (email, phone, postal address)

ORCID iD (if available)

Acknowledgements (funding, institutional support, etc.)

Abstract & Keywords
Abstract: 150–250 words, structured (Background, Methods, Results, Conclusion) for research papers.

Keywords: 4–6 relevant keywords (MeSH terms recommended).

Main Text
For original research articles, use the IMRaD format:

Introduction

Materials and Methods

Results

Discussion

Conclusion

For reviews, use appropriate thematic sections.

References
Use Vancouver style or APA style (journal may choose one consistently).

Ensure that all references are complete and accurate.

4. Figures & Tables
Submit figures in high resolution (300 dpi minimum) in JPEG, PNG, or TIFF format.

Tables should be editable and placed at the end of the manuscript or embedded after first mention in text.

Each figure and table must have a descriptive title and legend.

5. Formatting
Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt, double-spaced.

Margins: 2.5 cm on all sides.

File type: Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx).

6. Ethical and Legal Considerations
Plagiarism: Submissions will be screened with plagiarism detection software; similarity index must be below 15%.

Human/Animal Studies: Include statement on ethics committee approval and informed consent.

Conflict of Interest: Authors must declare any financial or personal relationships that could influence the work.

Data Availability: Where applicable, authors should state how and where data supporting the results can be accessed.

7. Licensing & Copyright
JMN is an open access journal.

All articles are published under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) license, allowing unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction, provided the original work is properly cited.

Authors retain copyright.

8. Submission Process
Submit manuscripts via  online submission portal only.

Ensure that all required files (manuscript, figures, supplementary material) are included.

A confirmation email will be sent upon receipt.​

9. Peer Review Process
All manuscripts undergo double-blind peer review by at least two independent experts.

The average review time is 4–6 weeks.

Decisions will be Accept, Minor Revision, Major Revision, or Reject.

10. Article Processing Charge (APC)

International Authors: USD 150 per accepted article
Indian Authors: ₹12,500 (INR) per accepted article (Effective from 15 July 2026)

No submission fee. The APC is payable only after acceptance of the manuscript. Payment of the APC has no influence on editorial decisions, peer review, or publication acceptance.

The APC supports high-quality scholarly publishing, including:

• Copyediting and typesetting

• DOI registration and metadata management

• Online publication and website maintenance

• Digital preservation and long-term archiving

• Indexing preparation and journal operations

APC Waiver Policy

Full or partial APC waivers may be granted in exceptional cases, including authors from low-income countries or those facing genuine financial hardship. Waiver requests are considered individually and must be submitted before payment.

Additional Requirements for Authors

ORCID iD

The Journal of Medical Food and Nutrition (JMN) strongly encourages all authors to register for an Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID iD). The corresponding author is encouraged (or required, if you decide to make it mandatory) to provide a valid ORCID iD during manuscript submission.

An ORCID iD uniquely identifies researchers, improves author attribution, and enhances discoverability of published work.

Authors may register for a free ORCID iD at https://orcid.org.

All authors must disclose any financial or non-financial conflicts of interest that could influence the interpretation of their work.

If no competing interests exist, authors should include the following statement:

Failure to disclose conflicts of interest may result in manuscript rejection or post-publication correction or retraction.

Authors must disclose all sources of financial support received for the research.

The funding statement should include:

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Disclosure Policy

Authors must disclose any use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, including but not limited to ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, Grammarly AI, or similar technologies.

AI tools may be used only for language editing, grammar improvement, formatting assistance, or limited drafting support.

AI tools must not be listed as authors because they cannot take responsibility for the integrity, originality, or accuracy of scientific work.

Authors remain fully responsible for the content of the manuscript.

During the preparation of this manuscript, the authors used ChatGPT to improve language and grammar. The authors reviewed and edited the generated content and accept full responsibility for the final version of the manuscript.

Ethics Approval

Research involving human participants, animals, biological specimens, or identifiable personal data must receive prior approval from an appropriate Ethics Committee or Institutional Review Board (IRB).

For case reports, clinical images, videos, or any information that may identify an individual, written informed consent for publication must be obtained.

Authors should remove all unnecessary identifying information unless explicit consent for publication has been obtained.

Clinical Trial Registration

Clinical trials must be prospectively registered in a publicly accessible trial registry before the enrollment of the first participant.

• Clinical Trials Registry – India (CTRI)

• ISRCTN

• WHO International Clinical Trials Registry Platform (ICTRP)-recognized registries

The registration number and registry name must be included in the manuscript.

Failure to register a clinical trial before participant enrollment may affect consideration for publication.

Authors are encouraged to follow internationally recognized reporting guidelines appropriate to their study design, including:

• PRISMA – Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses

• CARE – Case Reports

• ARRIVE – Animal Research

• STARD – Diagnostic Accuracy Studies

Authors should submit the relevant completed reporting checklist where applicable.

Final Declaration

Before submission, authors must confirm that:

• The manuscript is original and has not been published elsewhere.

• The manuscript is not under consideration by another journal.

• All authors have approved the final manuscript.

• Ethical requirements have been met.

• Conflicts of interest and funding sources have been disclosed.

• AI use, if any, has been declared.

• The work complies with the Journal of Medical Food and Nutrition's publication ethics and editorial policies.
